i know hd's should play from 52hz - 180ish hz.... but would they sound good if i was to cut them off between 55hz - 100/120hz, we have been thinking about putting them inbetween our subs and tops

Yes, narrowing the range you're using them over is fine, as long as it's within the recommended usage.
