Hi guys. I am designing a dual 12 mid high cab similar to the x12 for the drivers I have. is there a difference whether you place the comp at the centre or at the top of the cab. the cab is going to sit on top of 3 tham15 per side.

No, not really. There is coupling of the two 12" drivers when they're next to each other but, most of the time the HF unit being moved in between them is for aesthetics or if you're trying to achieve a D'Appolito arrangement. (Google it and you'll see).

Anything that brings the different sources closer together will give a more coherant sound, I think it is the old wavelength rule that the distance between drivers should be less than the wavelength being reproduced.  So for your 12" it would be the wavelength of the highest frequency before going to the CD (prob in the 1k6 Hz range).

Also the total cab height will be reduced if the hf element is between the mids, as the mid frequency will hopefully not be affected by being partially obscured.
music is the message
