Hello!
I have the opportonity to buy CW 188EM cheap, but i cant find any data on them. So my only hope is that u guys can help me out. Im thinking of putting them in an 1850 or 186 horn or should i go for bassreflex instead. The boxes will only be used for homeuse with my CW at100, what do u think about that? Any one who can tell me more about the 188EM ?? data and Thiele/small parameters would be truly approchieted(sorry for my poor english am live in Sweden:)

Have you tried asking on the Cerwin Vega forum? Or even Vega themselves?

188 em is,i believe their "economy" 18 inch driver,it has a 3 inch (75mm) voice coil,as is rated about 300watts i think.
Will work in a bass reflex or simple W-bin. It is not a high power horn driver. |

Be seeing you.

I will need to check my records for if it is the old 188 the QTS should be around 0.18 - 0.20 As far as I remember, none of Cerwin Vega 18-inch drivers were designed with reflex cabinets in mind. If it is the old 188, the driver should perform fine in either the 1850 or 186 however, the xmax will rather low. Best Regards, Edited by Elliot Thompson - 15 October 2012 at 5:04pm |

Hi. It would be best to look for another brand for that driver was designed for folded horns. Cerwin Vega is known for folded horns not reflex cabinets. Cerwin Vega focuses on 18-inch drivers that perform best in folded horns. Best Regards, Edited by Elliot Thompson - 15 October 2012 at 5:42pm |

Here is some reading material. http://www.speakerplans.com/index.php?id=faq1 Read what it says about QTS and remember Cerwin Vega 188 falls within the 0.18 - 0.20 range. You are not going to get low bass using a Cerwin Vega 18-inch driver in a reflex box no matter how low you try to tune it. You will be lucky if you can achieve 60 Hz using an 18-inch driver with a QTS residing around 0.18 - 0.20 in a reflex box. This link below shows how low you will get using four PD 1850s http://www.speakerplans.com/index.php?id=1850horn You can expect the same performance using four Cerwin Vega 18-inch woofers in a PD 1850 cabinet. If that is not low enough for you, don't buy the Cerwin Vega 18-inch woofer. Best Regards, Edited by Elliot Thompson - 15 October 2012 at 6:12pm |

Why the hell are you even thinking about building an 1850 for home use?
Are you completely insane? For home use you want no bigger than 15" REFLEX. |

The site HornPlans has a section in their vintage designs with some CV folded horns.
