I had some pre cut Par56 gels delivered....they were too small...
I sent them back explaining that they didnt fit my Par56. They sent me replacements and told me that I was using Par58. Does a par 58 can exists?

no, par 64 is probably what they were referring to, being the only par lamp larger than a 56.. par 16/20/30/36/38/46/56/64 are the options.

Interesting... As the Par64 gels they supplied me fitted my Par56 perfectly. And were *just* big enough to fill a Par64 frame.
Par58 doesnt exist....so they're just silly billys!

Do you have pulsar Par 56's by any chance? They made parcans which took
both sizes of lamps, which had a par 64 sized frame. Most companies will
cut a roll of gel so they can get the most cuts out of it, with par
64's (255mm x 255mm) you can just squeeze 5 cuts out of the width of a roll (1220mm) if you
under-size the cuts slightly

They're 'Thomas' and not big enough to use with a Par64 lamp

Did you get them from e-bay?
I have recently bought some long-nosed Thomas par 64s (x6) and I've yet to lamp and gel them. I'm planning on putting 500w lamps in them - hope they'll fit. Is the issue the diameter of the lamp being too large to fit? These are the ones: http://www.jamesthomas.co.uk/jte/lighting/par64-56-46.aspx edit - added link.

The Thomas cans are what we mostly stock, sounds like whoever you bought the gels from sent you the wrong cuts, and only sent you the right ones after spinning you a yarn. For the most part Par 64 frames are 10" square (255mm x 255mm) par 56 frames are 7.5" square (190mm x 190mm) and par 46 I've had to look up, but are 6.24" square (158mm x 158mm) We cut our par 64 sized cuts at 244mm x 244mm, which means you can cut 5 across a roll with no waste. The gel covers the hole in the frame but doesn't reach the edges of the frame. Measure yours and tell us what size gels you were sent

Garglebard - the available par 64 sized 500w lamps are CP 87 - Narrow spot and CP 88 - Medium Flood. You can also get raylight reflectors but I find them to be fairly rubbish - splodgy output and tend to burn through any gel you place in front of it in record time

Thanks for that James - for a minute there I was thinking that I'd struggle to get lamps to fit.
Good link too - not a bad price (although it will be expensive as I need 6 plus a spare)
