It's totally and utterly pointless trying to squeeze 4mm cable into a 13a plug. it's a waste of copper!

I had a Crown MA2400 with a similar problem, ie oversized mains inlet cable. I imagine it was a leftover from the original 110v design.

Was told 4mm Arctic Blue fits decent 13A plug no problem.
3G4 HO7-RNF, different story I would think. |

The problem is that it won't fit? You seem to have answered your own question…
For the what, 50cm your tail is going to be the change in cable thickness isn't going to make a huge difference, particularly as you're limited by the fuse anyway. |

if the cable is too large, it would not be in the plug manufacturers recommendation of usage of their product, which would make it a PAT/general fail. The cable strain relief, and physical hole, will be made for a certain diameter cable thickness which must conform, as will the terminal holes for the cores themselves - they must all fit in properly within design specifications.
why bother regardless, does it really matter if your cable doesn't look phat? Are you some kind of closet audiophile who must have cabling resembling a dildo or something? If it is running off a 13A fused plugtop, then 2.5mm is the maximum any sane person would ever need. If running without a fuse, you are an idiot [not that you are i hope!]. try putting your cable in black garden hose and fill the hose with shot pellets? That will make it pretty hefty looking
only jokes, sorry, just can't see a serious side to what you are asking about, especially after multiple replies which i shall summarise to the word of 'why?'. Edited by mk2_ginger_biscuit69 - 20 February 2013 at 6:13pm |
