Hello, im meant to be writing a dissertation but its not happening....Im currently wondering about the effects of assymetrically loading a horn mouth, ie. like that of the 1850 horn.

1) Firstly does this pose any stress effect upon the driver?
2) Secondly on coupling the driver to the air, ie does asymetrically loading the driver improve the response below cutoff frequency (due to improved coupling)?

In the case of something like the 1850 where the flare is contiuned backwards to a width of 0 is it a case of as long as the throat width average along the length of the driver its the same as that of loading the driver at 90 degrees to the flare?

something a bit like....

what im also is if say a pd2150 was loaded in such a mannor would you have to be carefull to avoid damaging the driver?

its all getting a bit confusing..... thanks,

will

hi

i don't know the answer to your questions but does the 1850 horn not have a rectangular throat cut in the baffle board and will this not mean that there is very little asymetry in the loading on the driver? also at the wavelengths we're dealing with will there be much of pressure differential over such a small distance regardless of the troat size?

i'm interested to see what those with better understanding have to say.

cheers!

Consider this

If there was gross assymmetrical loading, what effect would it have on the woofer

In my opinion,it would cause voice coil rubbing, and subsequent damage or destruction.
Do we see this occuring?

Lastly, have you ever seen an AES paper on this topic -
- It either doesnt occur
- Or it does, but its insignificant.

As far as the woofer is concerned,it sees a low pass filter and an expansion after that.

If anyone did know,DJK or Tom Danley would know.Ive never seen it mentioned by either as an issue.
