Running an Apogee Duet from a MacBook Pro via Firewire. Suddenly audio from the interface drops out defaults to the MBP's internal speakers. No power to the Duet and the MBP end of the Firewire cable is hot and there's an acrid smell of burning.

My 3-year old daughter may have had the cable end in her mouth earlier (!) so I suspect this is another spit-related disaster. I don't have another FW cable to test the interface - perhaps the damage occurred at the MBP FW output?

Anyone know what's going on here? How can I tell if the FW output on my MBP is the problem?

P.S. I know this isn't in the PC forum.
