Hi guys,

I've just had all my wood cut by B&Q to build my 4 HD15's and im currently marking them up to have a friend cut all the angles, baffle hole and access panels for me.

I just had a couple of questions as this is my first ever speaker build. Shocked

For the inputs on the back im thinking speakons would be best, can anyone recommend a good website to get them? Also is it better to get ones that the wire slots into rather than soldering? Im looking ro be able to run these in pairs in parallel from one amp so will need two for each speaker, is there an easy way to wire them?
Also where should they be positioned on the back to allow them room to stick through above the baffle, and does positioning affect the sound atall? and is it just a case of just drilling/cutting two holes in each speaker and gluing/sealing them in?
Next i was wondering what wire should be used and where i should run it through to the driver. I've heard people suggest leaving out a T-nut and running the wire through that hole, or is it better to drill one separate.
Also will there be enough room for the wings on the T nuts to tighten the driver into place ones its fitted at the bottom, as i know this is  very tight space?
And lastly for all four is 5kg of tuffcab my best bet? is there a cheaper decent alternative?

Cheers guys, much appreciated. I will upload all my build pics when there finished, and if they work out ok will put up all my google sketch up files, plans and cutlists for everyone :)

 Hi and welcome to the forum,Big smile my first proper build was also HD15s (well 215s but anyway....)!

 To answer some of your questions;
'For the inputs on the back im thinking speakons would be best'

 Definitely use nl4 speakons, if you use the nl4mpr sockets these have a larger flange so you get a better seal around the socket, don't bother with spade connectors or fastons, you'll have a much better connection with solder, your wiring will simply be connecting the speakons together in parallel with the driver wired to +1 and -1, just like this (courtesy of Shagnasty!);

  'Also where should they be positioned on the back?'

It doesn't really matter as long as they are well sealed to prevent air leaks, a bit of silicone sealant usually takes care of this.

  'i was wondering what wire should be used'

 Any 2.5mm flex would do the job here, 1.5mm would probably be enough as its only a short run but I would use 2.5mm in a bass cab for peace of mind.

  'or is it better to drill one separate.'

 Drill another hole on the baffle board somewhere and seal it up with a bit of silicone again!

 'will there be enough room for the wings on the T nuts to tighten the driver into place ones its fitted at the bottom, as i know this is  very tight space?'

  I didn't have any issues with the T nuts when I built mine but you correct, it is very tight, be prepared for some cursing when you're fitting the driver!

  And lastly for all four is 5kg of tuffcab my best bet?

5kg will be more than enough for four and whilst it may not be the most durable stuff its pretty good, you just have to give it a few days to harden before you apply the next coat and then give it a week before you move the cabs anywhere

  'is there a cheaper decent alternative?'

 Not that I've found.
