Her car stereo is eating the tapes up and the radio doesn't work anymore on many stations, plus her speakers are very badly distorting[sounds like torn cone sound] in all 4 car doors.

So she wants to replace them all and possibly get a sub that can be taken out when no ones in the car. As she doesn't want it broken into and doesn't want to spend on an alarm too.

She doesn't have the slightly clue what to go for. Plus she wants to spend no more than £300 for the lot. As I use it more than her and its her car.

I'll be buying the sub + amp with my own money, as I'm the only person to use it really. She might enjoy it eventally though, as it could make the bass on her classical music for instance, stand out and sound truelly deep.

The car is a Renault Clio 1.2l , the 2nd newest mode, S reg.

She wants the headunit to be pretty powerfull[ 4x 45w min] as road noise is a problem when shes on the motorway.
It needs to have cd [with mp3 reading] + radio and an input jack for an mp3 player etc.
Also needs 1 pre-out too.

The size of the speakers in the doors are 5 +1/4 inch, and pretty shallow enclosure its in.

What headunit and door speakers would you recommend?

She mostly plays classical, jazz, rnb when shes in the car and used to let me play whatever when I'm in the car inc DnB, reggae etc.

Also for the sub, something like that powered JBL BTX 250 sub any good for low money?
Unless that doesn't sound much like a sub, it seems the best cheap portable sub to get. It's only £130 too. Less money for me to spend to go in her car, lol.
Might be able to pick one off ebay 2nd hand even cheaper.

Cheers will tell her about getting those speakers. Have you heard them though?

I need the headunit to have an input at the front for an mp3 player etc though. And also a decent make like Pioneer, etc.

I don't want seperate amps[apart from the one on the sub], as it needs to be taken out when the car is parked.
It's mum's car not mine. Plus shes got no alarm and doesn't want to spend money on one.

I could maybe however bolt an amp onto a sub box, so it can be taken out.
But as I'll be using my very limited own money for that. No more than £200 for the sub + box[has to be ported] + amp. So wouldn't care if I bought 2nd hand.

In the end, mum decided to spend the extra £££ and get a headunit with DVD, a mini jack out and a usb out and a mini screen on it. So passengers can watch movies in the car.
It's some unknown make though but had a 3 year warranty and plays all sorts of audio and video formats.

She got 4 Pioneer TS-A1311 3 way co-axials now which are rated 35w rms each/150w max.

Still looking what sub to get, the headunit has 1 preout. So any active car sub under £200 I'm looking for.

The JBL active tube sub sounded like boomy 1 note crap, and not powerfull either, when I heard it in the showroom.

I guess them active Vibe subs would be better. As most tube subs sound crap.

Tox - try out JBL's 8" GTO, havn't heard it my self but i've heard others say it sounds pretty nice.

headunit wise, you may want to look for something with 2 preouts. the power ratings on headunits are normaly max ratings... like the head unit unclejam linked, it's rms ratings are more around 10-20watt per channel. having a second preout will allow you to use a small higher power amplifier for the coaxials or else you'd be dealing with the same distorted noise again... i hate to say it really knowing that it would cost even more but to avoid distortion even with the newer system then using a small 2-4 channel full range amp would help ALOT.
