Hi everyone,
I need some advice on these two types of cabinets for dub music.
I've already built 4 classic scoop with 18sound lw2400 drivers and now I would like to build the mid-bass binz.
I planned to build four kick speakers but I don't know which is the better, in term of sound quality, for dub music.
G SUB is a classic sub woofer, good if is used up at very low frequency, but I need a cabinet to cover this frequency range : 90 HZ - 180/200 HZ.
Now I've listened many dub session, only few times with HD15 speakers, and I have to say that are pretty good for "old reggae-dub sound", but I never listened the G SUB.
Also the G SUB mounted 18" instead of 15" (is there a plan for the 15"?).

Could you tell me if a classic sub woofer, like G SUB, works well like the HD15 for the DUB MID BASS?
I would like to have just your opinion.
Are they a good substitutes of the HD 15?
Does someone have ever built or listened these speaker?
Thanks for your opinion / advice!!!

Hd is a dedicated cab for the upper bass and does excel in that region , better attack, and throw that a gsub, but g sub can play much lower and be used on its own for smaller events , if you wanna go reflex a double 15 may be better for you as will give you the fast attack that you need , if you wanna go 18 , es18

G sub would be better compared with a bigger horn with a lower cutoff. If you want deep bass, go for the G sub. If you want loud and efficient above 60hz, go for the HD15. For dub, I would choose deep bass every time. For trance or Techno, I might go for the HD15.

Your priorities will answer the question of how to proceed.

One thing I've played around with is time aligning the kicks with the 18" cones (not horn mouths), this happens automatically with the reflex cones, but ports are out of phase. To do this with hd15s, scoops must be delayed accordingly, delivers a hard kick.
Haven't decided yet which one I prefer, never did an A-B test, but I did that with tapping single scoops, and that sounds better in my opinion, however never tried with multiples.

By tapping a scoop I mean to move the cone closer to a surface, to make it a tapped horn, leaning it forward is impractical, but letting it play into a wall at an angle works well, Doing V-plating will do the same, but look at the last angle in the horn to avoid negative expansion.

Just as an add to this...

I had 2 hog scoops out with a g sub last weekend. Though it may not be what you would choose to build if starting out from scratch it is what I have ended up and I must say I love it. It means you might not have the tightest kick on the low end but having 4 x 18" drivers next to each other kicking out pressure to your mid rift is a thing of beauty and for reggae it certainly works and is very warm.
