Hi all,

I've recently gotten myself an '03 Sprinter for carting me gear around, and since it is my only vehicle, I'd like to make the sound system a lot better - currently there's NO bass response...

I was looking to mount a couple of full range drivers in the bulkhead at the top (so there's no chance of damage to them due to gear being up there.

The above is an idea of a driver I could use. Alternatively I'd buy separate subs and tops and put them all on the bulkhead, so well, just adding these to the equation: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jbl-gto-1502d-p-4365.html?cadid=6177f4006c34214dbc0777f1b0e467dc
Though, maybe 15" subs in a vehicle is a little ott?

Amp wise, I dunno, some thing like this:

And Head unit, not sure, something which'll do CDs (not a CD changer though) and have an aux in for an ipod or the like. Also, the radio would have to be really good. What ever I get, I'm going to need one of these:

I'm probably going to also have to get some Antivibration mounts so the bulkhead doesn't resonate so much.
I'll probably put some absorptive foam in the driver's cab to stop the internal reverberation from happening so much.

Does anyone have any thoughts, or even better, plans of what to use in a large panel van?

I'd appreciate feedback (of the non-screechy variety)

to be honest, you would do better with a pair of 10's or 12's. because you're in a small enclosed area, something like a pair of 15's would be overwhelming. i havn't personaly heard the GTO series subs, but i've heard others say they sound pretty nice. the PX300.4 is a VERY nice amplifier, though i would recommend you use a BPX500.1 for the subs and possibly a CS60.4 or a PX300.4 for your mids and highs. that way you have enough power to run RMS ratings and still have headroom so you don't have distortion problems from clipping.

i would also recommend sound deadening alot of vehicle so you don't have too much interfearing noise form the outside or ratteling parts inside the vehicle http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/index.php?cPath=24

Hi Jay,

Thanks for your reply.

10s were my original plan - I did notice the 15" detail once I'd posted - quite large things they are!

Yes Rattling parts would be annoying very much so!
I can't stand rattling vehicles - esp due to bass / sub-bass

I'll look into that sound-deadening stuff.

Thanks.

Si

not a problem. that eDeadening will be pretty nice to get rid of the ratteling problems. Elemental Designs came out specificly meant for Toyota's "Scion xB, xA and tC" cars. most of thier stuff is meant for compact applications so the speakers are designed specificly for really small sealed enclosures. but thier eDeadening stuff works GREAT! no matter what make of vehicle you drive. i personaly have a toyota Scion xB:

*actualy pics of my xB*

this thing has lituraly NO sound deadening material as the stock vehicle. the engine is VERY loud inside the vehicle compared to any other new car out there now. it's a little 1.5L 4 cylinder engine that makes more noise then the muffler does. even while on the freeway doing 60-70 mph *100-105 kmh* i hear the engine over the road noise and resisting wind speeds. and i will say this, doing atleast 75% eDeadening in my vehicle will actualy make it quiet enough in the inside that you can't hardly hear anything at all from the outside world let alone the engine. so that eDeadening stuff they have is very nice!
