I've been given this DJM to sort out. It has suffered a drink spill, well several in its life it seems from the state of the inside! Anyway so after an extensive strip down and clean it's all working except for the display which isn't working at all. I'm guessing maybe a circuit protector has popped after the liquid got in there. Any pointers as to where I should start fault finding the display issue? Many thanks!

Hi,

On the top board there are three ribbon cables going to the lower main DSP board, the smallest one of the three is the control/power for the display, check the ends of this ribbon are not dirty etc and then check the tracking and connector on the main DSP board where this ribbon plugs in, i assume you have checked all the electronic fuse on the DSP board ?????.

Repaired a lot of these with the same fault as you described and most was beer going onto the lower main DSP board and eating / decaying the tracking on the board. Check this area very closely.

Just remember PIONEER products ALWAYS attract beer. LOLLOLLOL

I had another look at this again earlier, no beer seems to have got anywhere near the DSP board, all ribbon cables are clean and seated correctly and I have checked all the littel fuses by the plug from the PSU and all are ok. I am wondering if the problem is on the top board as there was most liquid damage there?

Check that you have the 33 volts for the display (VF- & VF+) this comes from the small ribbon cable from the DSP board and then going up to the top PCB for the display, if this voltage is missing NO DISPLAY. I assume you have the service manual ?????

Unfortunately I don't have a service manual the 33 volts is present at the connector on the top board from the DSP but nothing at the connector by the output vu meter next to the display

It sounds like the top board is the problem, you could try tracing the tracks of the 33 volts and they should end up on two of the pins on the display, a service manual will help.

Hello some Years later, I have the same problem with my DJM 800 no display but everything else works just fine. The display went out some weeks ago but first just stoped working occasionally and lit up sometimes when powered again. Now ist dead. Checked all Ribbons and no Beer anywhere to find. All fuses traces seem to be fine. At the display solder on Panel 2 I measure on pin V33 33 Volts but at VF+ and VF- just 0.1 to ground. Is this how it should behave isn’t other idea maby and you know what VF+ and VF- does? Every other LED works fine.
Greetings
Leander
