Hello everyone. Im new to the forum and a novice when it comes to building speakers.
My question is, how large a frequency range does a driver need to be put in a scoop? i notice that a lot of the recommended drivers have a frequency range that goes way about what you would set your scoops too on a crossover. What frequency do you use for scoops? Would something has a rated bandwidth of 30 -100Hz be suitable? Sorry if questions like this have already been answered. Thanks guys

30-100hz as a direction for drivers is fine depending on actual scoop design, the frequency range u actually use scoops with dsp in real world simulation would be smaller and depends on numbers of scoops also imho - dont use hpf lower then 40hz if u use only 1-2 scoops in general.
some people use scoops only for sub some people also like their "scoop-upper-bass"-sound as well ps: what is much more imprtant then "freq-range": if the driver is suitable for use in a long horn-speaker... Edited by Miles - 05 August 2016 at 10:58pm |

Vocals can go as low as 90 odd hz. 32-90hz would be the range id use. Hope this helps

if you want to know exactly, you should measure your scoops frequency response. Then you will know exactly where you have the "dip". With this knowledge you can make informed decisions about how to tune your system.

Hi again. Has anyone had any experience with Fane Sovereign Pro 18-800P
in scoops? Im planning on building the mogale scoop since plans are available and will eventually upgrade to the recommended driver. Just wondering if the 18-800p would do for the time being? Thanks again!

That driver is an XB except with single suspension. So think 18b600 with XB cone and today's AES measurement. If they are cheap then fine, but if you are paying retail then get good used 186/XB/RCF
I did not like the Sov pro in MS18, but did in reflex. |

The other thing to bear in mind with the Sovereign Pro 18-800 is that the driver is now not being sold! It is £M only. Shame, I've got a pair in reflex cabs and they sound superb!
