How does one wire a passive mic split? am i right in thinking that for 2 identical consoles, or stage boxes, a simple Y split on each input is sufficient? wired 1-1-1, 2-2-2, 3-3-3?

I'm guessing you'd want some form of isolater incase one of the desks sends phantom power.

It's pretty normal to do 2 or 3 way passive splits without isolation.

Our 32way splitter is wired as 32 individual y-splits.  No issues thus far.

one of the desks (monitor world), will be almost certainly be sending phantom power for condensers and DI's.
An active split is usually only required for broadcast etc

Passive split is no problem - just make sure that only one desk in the chain sends the phantom power!

You may need to lift pin 3 on one of the splits to prevent hum loops, if you do, you could add switches, I would lift the mon side of the split as you will always be using the FOH split.

I've used and manufactured many multicores that use y splits with out any issues.

Also made some with a sowter transformer on every channel they get very expensive.
