Which one would be the best bang for the buck? Would there be any noticeable difference? We would be making eight 186 horns.
The L18P300-07 is €269, and the LF18G401 is €229 L18P300-07: General

Its a no brainer. The 18G401 beats the 18P300 by every means imo, being much newer.

So the budget option is also better? That sounds like music to my ears! |

The G401 is more suited to horn loading too, the P300 is a wicked reflex driver though.

L18P300 used to be RCF's top of the range bass driver for a long time until it was superceded by the LF18G/X400. It has got a thick top plate to increase linearity and power handling, and ventilation holes in the back plate to the same purpose. It's still being made and now sold at a competitive price, compared to its successor, which has a higher voice coil winding.
LF18G401 is a budget driver. Some features have purposely been omitted to keep the price down. It lacks extensive ventilation, has a comparatively thin top plate and not much voice coil hight. That said, it's got a modern suspension like its larger siblings and a very high efficiency (because of the short coil). I think it's hard to choose. It must be funny to spend extra money to obtain a driver that's actually older (LF18P300). The price of the L18G401 ist just unbeatable. On the other hand, guessing that you have certain expectations when building 8 bass horns, I'd consider using a driver with high power handling and especially, a greater voice coil overhang. |
