I thought you 12 volters might be interested.
A while back I got a 4ohm BMS 15S430 for the Tham15 I have on my Boominator powered BoomBike. Earlier I finally got round to fitting it and the results are dramatic! I'd been running a couple of different 8ohm Subs but they always sounded breathless and flat. I'd hoped that the 4ohm driver would be a better match for the Bassface and it seems so. Very interesting!
I was once told that 4 ohm drivers are not the magic solution for 12v they might appear to be, due to other parameters also changing with the reduction in impedance, in such a way as to negate a lot of the benefits. However, that clearly isn't the case for your system. Did you compare the parameters, what was different apart from the Z? I've ended up using 8R Fane Sov. 12-200's in my MTH30 bass bins. I was using the 12-500LF's which are on paper a better driver for the application. However, in the real world, the lower moving mass of the 12-200 translated to more available output from the box and a "faster" sound, and the lighter magnet is a boon for mobile use too.

Not something I'm clued up about, but I guess the ideal driver would depend on the amplifier i.e. you might assume that the Bassface amp is designed to be optimal when driving lower impedance loads, whereas with a different amp the lower Z load wouldn't offer any benefit.
