Hello,
I have bought a pair of Coda Audio R32 which were produced in January 2003. They came complete with the original BMS 4590 2"-1" coax's. Original they where produced with McCauley B1240 and later with BMS 12s430 The ones i have came with 1 bms 12n810 and 1 bms 12n820 (slight difference in powerrating, dB, x-max, frequency response etc etc) I would like to know what is best to do; -Keep them as they are (will the difference be noticed?). -Change 1 bms 12n810 for bms 12n820 -Change 1 bms 12n820 for bms 12n810 -Buy 2 new/used bms 12n620, which look like a good alternative for B1240 or 12s430 See spec's in below; https://afbeelding.im/dyj5Pnbn - https://afbeelding.im/dyj5Pnbn gr, Wouter |

Well, the best thing would be to contact Coda and ask them - they might at least be able to tell you what characteristics to prioritise, even if they won't recommend an exact driver.

12n820 has 2mm more xmax so more "lowend/lowmid" capability..
doubt any of those 2 suits the original xover though.. |

As i was looking for some information about these speakers i came across a German forum.
There was written some information about McCauley B1240 which should have been used in the beginning for those speakers. I double checked this information with Coda Audio, they confirmed me as following; Mid + High; BMS
4590/16 mounted on a BMS 2230B Horn (the same as 2230 but with different
flange) Low; First
series used EVM124C15-8 (this should be the same as McCauley B1240, only with
different label) and later series used BMS 12S420-8 (January 2006, version
number changed to V1.1) |

This weekend I will see if I can make a scetch for the internal filter (including values). I will also make a calculation for the amount of liters and tuning (cm2 and how long). Maybe with this information we can find out which speaker suits best. |

Maybe not so relavant, but below you can find the internal filter network as they are in my Coda R32's https://afbeelding.im/1Mk76ea4 - https://afbeelding.im/1Mk76ea4</a>Maybe more relevant is the housing for the 12 inch, this is 22,7 ltr (incl speaker, internal filters, polemount and some rockwool there will be, let's say, only 17 ltr left?). The basreflex openings are in total 98cm@ and 18mm long (wood thickness). Looking at the B1240's QTS (which should have been the original speaker so also orignal for this filter network) it has an QTS of 0.29, so it should be wise to arrange a speaker that suits this QTS, right? Than the 12N620 might not look so bad (QTS = 0.25) compared to 12N810 or 12N820 (both of them have a QTS = 0.16). Above this; the 12N620 has 2dB more output (than original) and it comes closer to the original speaker in powerrating than 12N810/12N820. Please advice....... simply put, a higher qts driver will ideally play lower in a smaller size of cab at cost of spl/upper extension..
- without retuning and xover adjusting any other option than the original one would most likely lead to suboptimal results.. both, n810/n820, are not ideal obviously but the 820 should be closer than the 810 imo.. as you know the tuning and volume its easy to sim some drivers and get an idea re suitable drivers in those cabs.. |

Hi Wouter85, I tried looking at that filter drawing but I keep getting a 404 with no drawing. Can you post you drawing here or send me a PM. I was interested in how they crossover the midrange. Thanx, Vectordj
