Morning All,

Anyone care to comment on the reason(s) behind manufacturers moving away from 16r bullet and compression drivers to 8r?

Considering that these components are more likely to be installed/used in multiples than their cone relatives seems rather silly to me...

I'd say with todays efficiency and power handling of compression drivers, a balanced system tends to have more cone drivers per compression driver.

Todays high power amplifiers tend to be optimized for 2-4 ohm, not even maintaining output at 8r. Two 8r cone drivers running parallel 4r is asking for a differently optimized amplifier than the 16r compression driver would.
The exception of Powersoft producing high voltage modules (HV) for running high impedance components proves the rule i guess.
Best regards, Fred.
