wife acceptance has reared its ugly head once more and the 5.1 system in my sitting room needs to lose its current sub.

the only place I can really put its replacement will be under a coffee table. this gives me max external dimensions of 320x300x1220mm

internally, before taking out driver, bracing, ports etc that gives me about 0.089m2 to play with.

the 12" driver I have to play with didnt seem like a contender when I looked at it about ten years ago (ciare pw324 - ancient, no t/s available)

but, since I had a couple of minutes spare I ran some signal through it and measured fs at 28hz.

overall q seems lowish as there wasnt a huge change in measured voltage either side of resonance but since this has all been quick and dirty thats just a half educated guess

looking at the cone movement it looks to have a higher xmax than previously expected

so should I:

build the box at the 0.089m2 Ive got available and tune to 20-25hz

or

build a sealed box at about 75% of that size and get all smiley on the eq

so, given thats what Ive got to play with what do you think I should do

Can't really offer any help, but I have 2 of those drivers too and have never known what to do with them. I was sure I once found parameters for them but I looked again relatively recently and couldn't find anything.

someone posted up specs for me on here years ago which made it look more of a low mid driver but its physical appearance and fs seem more suited to the lower octaves.

Ive got some spare mdf lying around so I might as well knock up the largest box I can fit into the space then stick a couple of breezeblocks in to see if they seem happier in a smaller enclosure

btw, Ive been meaning to hit you up for a coffee since I moved over here (4 years ago now - whoops)

Always fancied doing one of the Decware coffee table subs.
Missus thought it was pretty shit as a storage device for a living room. She is right.

Folded 1/4 wave pipe?.... with a small flare.
