Thanks for the suggestion, I've seen Empro's tasty collection of them and will keep an eye out for one to play with.

I've found that unless there is a faulty capacitor somewhere, the single biggest improvement to the sound of an from recapping coming from changing the main filter caps, much more so than say putting a Muse or Silmic in the preamp stages.

I should imagine that the ESR of the main filter caps are much lower than that of the old ones, despite the latter measuring about right in capacitance, i think that's what makes the difference.

The other cap that really seems to help an amp, particularly in the high frequencies, is the local filter cap for the output transistors, (C9,11 and C21,C23)

In this amp they were 47uF 100V jobs, I replaced them with Low-ESR 100uF 100V Nichicons.

I've been listening to it for half an hour or so with the new filter caps in, the bass does seem improved but I will need wait until tomorrow before I can crank it and test it properly.

Also, aren't big caps with screw terminals just sexy? D
