Hogs are heavy and huge in size thats for sure.

If you want to play 40hz with a hog you need 4 of them which means having a huge truck to move them and a ig space to store them. I think thats the problem with many scoops.

Having a "sub" which plays 60-80hz is no good. Reflex can easily play 40-120hz but wont be as loud. Its quality over quantity for me. Id rather hear all the notes in the bassline than just few loud notes here and there. Most of music is not bass.

How old is the hog design?

Didnt the late Tony Wilkes test his q12 against a hog and found that it was as loud as the hog althou much much smaller? I might remember wrong.

I have heard hogs many times as my friend has hogs. They are allright,I think its all about not what you have but how you use it.
"what!?"

How dare you! You most definitely can play down to 37hz with 4 hog scoops! Big smile

3 or so years ago I told my mate about hogs and he got someone to make him 4, he now says in all the years he has had a sound system and been trying different bass cabs, this is the best bass he has had, i am now making him four more. I also own 12 and they can really sing. In regards to"it's a budget diy cab" any cab can be classed as diy if you have the specs, don't diy mean 'do it yourself'? No? Tell Bill Fitzmaurice to stop selling plans for his professionally designed cabs then.

I am prone to believe more and more that KidCreole suffers from "HogScoop complex" condition :) ;)
Signature is important. So I always write something in this dedicated field.

but one time i heard an hog setup that was working so bad that if that would have been my only experience with hogs, i would have hated the cab...

Why? if I have better sounding designs. That statement just doesn't make any sense. For the same size cab, you could have double drivers and achieve a better sound. I just don't like their sound. I do like lots of bass cabs, just don't like the sound of these. Maybe I was expecting something else from a cab that was supposed to sound like a scoop. Good for techno, but not for reggae.

As u told, i heard imperial sound army with turbomax and it does not sound, it is just throwing you SPL, nothing about the control of the cone but the musicality of them. It just seemed to me to not have a soul, very harsh and tight, but completely again what i mean for a good bass.. probabily he was cutting them down to 60 50 hz, so that could be another reason.. I used 18LW1400 and i was pretty satisfied, good warm sound!
Now i am moving to B&C 18SW115, in a copule of days i could tell you how i feel with them, even if i already know how them sound in hogs.
I personally advice you to go with 1850, unless u could find them in a cheap way. Just be carefully to not drive them to hard, cause i heard is not that difficult to go wrong with them, also hitting backplate with VC when xmax exceed. I am italian and in taly loudspeakers manufactory are quite a worldwide leaderships imho, really good quality and reliability in B&C, 18Sound, RCF, Ciare, SonoraSpeaker.. There are also good oberton speakers, and i think void could be grate too.. i would not go below 0.28 Qts and i would prefeer to have a not to high Vas, smoother drivers with high Vas could give you smother response if you still have a good BL i think.. sorry for mistakes in my english, hope you all would forgive me :)
