Greetings everybody

I have been thinking about building a small soundsystem for home use. The problem is I live in the city in a row house where it is impossible to play very loud music, especially loud bass. So my question is: what setup would you guys recommend to me that has a nice fullrange sound (still with good bass since i play dub/reggae) but wont piss of the neighbours? Any recommendations/ advice are welcome!

Bless

Sitting close to your sub.

I also live in a row house, with a 12" sub about 50 cm from my feet. It helps a bit that it's a (series tuned 6th order) band pass with a small radiating port but distance is key. You could mount a sub under or next to your seat, you can even use multiples spread throughout a room to cover larger areas (which can also have the benefit of each exciting different room nodes).

And add a shaker/buttkicker if you want/need/like more "feel".

Being as close as possible to your speakers, is about the only way if you don't like the headphones/in-ears/optional shaker. Might still excite some neighbours when turned up though, but at least there's a good fighting chance you could get away with it.

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions/advice! Will probably consider mobiele eenheid’s advice since a pair of headphones just is not the same in my opinion...
