If you had column speakers in the '60's you were it. It's amazing how many name bands started with columns, although they couldn't do much else really. Vox used to make 2x12 pa cabs that were also popular. I had Selmer 4x10's

I remember Sound City 4x12s (open back) - 1971/2 - doing exchange student discos in North London. Can't even remember what we used to drive them.

For sidefills, can we have two enormous things of a type that might be venerated as Gods by the inhabitants of Easter Island, capable of reaching volumes that would make Beelzebub soil his pants.

Only time I ever used 4 x 12 columns was in the pub where I started DJing in 1977 and they were old and knackered even then. Think they were full of Fane POP 50s, but we had a pair of home made bins too and balanced a Goodmans Hifax 750 on top of one column and a Midax 650 on top of the other, neither of them in a cabinet

I had some of those infernal things, they kept blowing. If you study the suggested wiring configuration, you will see why, but I didn't realise at the time. They did keep replacing them though, until I just gave up. Postage got too expensive.

^ Truly awful sounding things, they had a phenolic diaphragm, coupled to a crude alluminium horn, harsh as you like..."frequency range 1.4 -12Khz"...yeah right...doubt if much came out of it over 6khz to be honest.

I started off with four Wem 4x12"B"columns which used to fit perfectly in between the wheel arches of my Escort van with all of the other gear on top of them--then rapidly progressed to a twin wheel Transit.
