adam the finish looks fooookin wicked, nice one! - i like the way you described it as 'just a hobby'!
btw did you seen the post on 'what's your preferred mixer' general section few pages back some people don't rate the pionner mixers for just those clipping reasons |

Cheers man.. it's been a year of hard work (in my spare time)... it is a hobby, never going to see my money back on this one!! and not really planning on hiring it out.. unless someone offers decent wedge, which they wont (I doubt)... it's more for personal parties / events etc which may or may not make a profit or might even try to do community / charity events with it... we shall see which doors open!
Well.... I FINNISHED THE LAST ONE!!!! That's it! All Done!
I think you might have got the wrong end of the stick on the mixer thread... my take is:
As long as the attenuators are turned to half or below, NO MATTER WHAT the red lights are doing on the front of the mixer, the signal is always acceptable (ie NOT CLIPPED).
That means the DJs can rag the mixer all they like, keep all the red lights on all the time for what I care.. the signal will never go over what I want... perfect! (let them think they are really rinsing it!).
Pics tomorrow of the whole thing in the garden.... weather / angry farmer permitting.
Can't wait to hear all 12HDs at one time... 4 was wicked, 12, oh man, it's gotta be good. Edited by adambomb - 22 September 2007 at 12:30am |

Regarding the DJM distortion thing, i'm tempted to revisit the whole test but using sines in the areas that we notice it most - e.g. 3khz and 6khz so we can see the effect on vox and snares and hi-hats, the sort of frequencies that really show it up.
It's easy enough to do and be nice if someone else could verify the findings too. Perhaps accompany each test with a photo of what the mixer leds are doing at the time too. Might be moot now as the DJM600 is old tech and the newer ones don't appear to have the same problems
BTW good work on getting them finished - hope you're v.happy with them when you get the chance to rag them.

What a f**king ACE day!
Wired it all up, turned it all on, one mid top not working.. was just a dodgy short speakon, swapped.. everything worked!!
And work it does.. REALLY!
Makes you eyeballs vibrate at 2 Meters, violently! Very Very Chuffed.
Spent most of the day farting about with the gain structure and EQing / setting delays... MUCH learning... it's all in the delays and polarity.. switching the polarity on the sub gained almost 3db at the crossover point!!!
Found I could almost eliminate the hole Rog found on the Mid Top Shoot at 1Khz.... just delay the comps and the hole goes away! Also droped the crossover point down to 1.8Khz.
Still not totally happy with the gain structure / EQ / Delays, and I never got past flickering the signal lights on the prolines.
Suprising thing actaully... the prolines running the Kicks @ 2.66ohms ran cooler than the 1 proline running sub @ 4 ohm.... maybe it's my music taste.
Anyways.. no more delay.. heres the pics!!
REAL BAD phasing when the mid tops are not played (as above).. they NEED to be splayed apart, but still damn loud and clear as above, just strange when you walk across the front...dead spots and weird sounds.
I can get to this stage on my own.. the tops are a two man job.
Me and me Rig.
BIG thanks for all the help from family and friends that helped me put it all together!! and HBL for the inspiration for the setup (or should that be curse).
Also big thanks to everyone who has helped me learn / given me advice on the forum.. a year long project comes to an end!
