Seems fine.
Try another PC/Router then the BT speedtester above. SKy should tell you what username to use.
Look for profile result being low.
Besides that, over to you Toasty.
It just is.

Doh! Well spoted Raging
We have detected that your ISP is Fast.co.uk. Your download speed is 6784Kbps. Your upload speed is 357Kbps
ABove was sky.

Just did Speedtest.net and it came out half that. Not reliable then.

Download speedachieved during the test was - 6283 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

Profile is nice and high. IF you can ge this test to run, I'll wager your profile is very low.

I've checked my speed a few times at work today.

I guess usage levels have a larger effect than I had expected...

When I started at 2pm I was getting 3.3Mbps. Checked again at about 10pm and it was 2.3. About 12.30 that had gone up to 2.8, then at about 2am it had shot up to 6.4. Checked it just now (coming up to 3.30am) and it is just over 7, which is probably as close to the 8 that we pay for as it's going to get.

I presume that distance from the exchange doesn't have any effect as we're literally 50yds away from the Midland ATE.

Not really earth shattering news but I thought I'd share...

Cheers

you may be 50yds away from the exchange but how long is the cable? i remember reading about a guy who was a few 100m from the exchange but the route the copper took to his house was a few miles long!

You more than likely have an unstable connection so over time it's gonna get throttled more and more to try and keep it stable. Speak to your ISP about intermittency diagnostics.

Oh, and if anybody missed the news Zen are doubling their usage caps as of June 1st, same product prices
