That's actually the fastest you're likely to pull on a 100Mbps Ethernet connection.

will do the speedtest at my uni soon, were on J.A.N.E.T the governments research network, rumoured to be around 100MB per sec and wayy more upload, seeing as we occasionally stream hdtv from our studios to up to 1000 people!

pretty sweet conenction there toasty..
unfortunately with ADSL its all about line attenuation.. the 'advertised' 20mb connections will mean jack if your line has a 60db attenuation on it. often the further the location from the exchange, the higher the attenuation. however cable quality, interferance and internal household cabling can make a huge difference.. IE if you still have a bellwire in your house.. just cut it (google how to do it) that should double incomming ADSL speeds..
and dont wait and pray for ADSL 2 or whatever BT wanna market it as, at 60db attenuation (giving you about 1.5mb on current tech which is what you appear to be getting) , the new tech will give you about 2.5mb .. so its hardly worth the effort..
still if you want get much better service.. beg virgin to stick in a cable line near your house.. cable is far better :)

Gigabit ethernet direct onto a backbone so yeah, pretty sweet
Actually, if you have a 60dB attenuation you're officially a 'long line' and on the curvature from even lab test conditions you will be worse off on ADSL2+ due to residual impulse noise inherent at higher frequencies. If your line even manages to stay stable you'll get less sync speed. General rule of thumb is only regrade if you have above 4Mbit sync on ADSL Max based services. That's pretty bloody good if your line follows the same road distance.

yeah 7 miles away 3meg is epic .. still id hack ya bell wire off.. seems to double the speeds everywhere ive done it..
and gigabit backbone.. lucky sod, im on a fiber backbone at the moment and the test caps out at 90meg.. yey for work internet :D
also toasty - good bit of info that... the curve that i saw showed ADSL2+ was slightly hire at +60db att. however i could be just remembering it wrong.. oh well. i deal with internal LAN networks and WAN MPLS. so as long as the users get some form of internet access that good enough for us .. now citrix.. i could go on about that for days :|
