Quite a few SP DIY 'ers, ask/talk about it, but are there actual Soundsystems out there that would buy custom built cabs for certain drivers?

I think there is but naturally a smaller market than 18" cabs. And also heavy marketing is needed. Especially outside of the reggae world. Need a big dubstep/hard dance crew to use and push them out. Same with the roots/dub scene. And also if you are offering cabs you need to be able to offer the drivers for them also at a good price. I know Tony A.s.s doesnt like building 21s... ive asked for quotes and got nothing! Ah well.

Think DnB outfits more likely to buy 21" Folded horns than Roots/Reggae crowd.
Whenever new 18" cabs come out, majority of Roots Reggae crew just ask same boring question... Will 1850 work in it.. Edited by levyte357- - 16 November 2016 at 4:06pm |

The system i operated for (Highness Sound System) has 4 2150 loaded super scoops. I absolutely love them. First use really surprised me in terms of speed, i was worried they would be woolly and slow, but i found they played like 18's on steroids! Very impressed. However, this was using 2 per stack. If using 4, stacked on their sides, horn in the middle, might change the speed on higher bass note

If 21" drivers and the amps required to power them properly cost the same as with 18" they would be standard. my £0.02.
If you can be arsed to shift an 18" loaded horn as a DIY'er you can shift a 21".

In answer to the original question,
probably not. Even though ours are great, for the performance of decent scoop/driver combo (18's) why carry the extra size/weight? Maybe the place to push (market) that sort of box would be for installs. |

i think it all boils down to driver choice and then cab design, i have heard 2150 loaded super scoops and a well proven 18" scoop with good driver simply floors it !!!in every aspect,

Maybe choice of operator....+ 1 yes of course i for 1 would think about 21s with out a hesitation if i heard some thing that was way above the sound of a premium 18" scoop

Yeah i think that's right, i love ours but the benefits (small) outway the hassle of lifting. Our box boys didn't enjoy lifting them.
