Are the generic JBL recone kits for the 2226h (like the ones from PAP) any good? Do they sound the same or are they worse. I know James Folkes has had bad experiences with the generic replacements for the 2" comps but whats the word on the 2226 ones?

I have all sorts of recone kits on the 2226, and the only one to go for is the genuine JBL one. I did 2 a couple of weeks ago and they were about £100 each. Originals last for ages and, in my opinion, sound 'better' than the recones I have heard. Durability of the recones I've had done in the past has been poor, and they have had a tendancy to sound bassier, which is not what I'm looking for in a mid bass tuned box.

With recones, you only get what you pay for.
If you want your 2226 to sound like an Eminence driver, fit the copy....if you want it to sound like a JBL,fit the original.

Bit off topic but does anyone know where is the best place to get a replacement surround for the 2243 in the UK??The foam on one of mine has completely gone but I think I caught it before any damage was done.

wembley loudspeakers have refoamed surrounds for me in the past. iirc they dont like suplying the foam as a diy item though.
parts express do, or at least did, a range of replacement foams. Ive no idea if any of them would be suitable though

Check cimplesolutions.co.uk for proper JBL recone kits. Not cheap but they are proper JBL recone kits.
