tv00 I'd hazard a guess that you don't like JBL drivers :-)

while you are correct in these cabs being of little use as a kick bin (as some of you call them) they do make a very good sub bass cab with the range of speakers that they were designed to be used with (as I said above).

I don't understand (and never have) why some people on this forum have to rinse every last grain of power out of any kit they own, use or operate. This isn't of course just in relation to drive units but also amplifiers.
just because a JBL or any other driver is not rated at 10 million watts doesn't make it a bad driver.
Just because an amp doesn't produce 5000 watts per channel into .64 of an ohm doesn't make it bad either.
The whole power thing in sound is to be honest nothing more that cock waving (or snobbery) quality should always come above quantity it's no good have a mega power system that sounds rubbish.

The fact that JBL sold so many of their sloppy sounding drivers speaks volumes (see what I did there?) the amount of money these sloppy drivers still command does more or less the same.

To go back to the op question no they are not the most sensitive cabs in the world but they will give you very low bass at a reasonable cost although you may have to do some time alignment to get it all sounding good, only you know what sound your looking for so try them and see how you get on

Thanks for the post colint. All I want them for is some extra 35-50hz bass.... To add some extra belly wobble on those long low notes in oldschool jungle.
I will try delaying all my reflex cabs progressively until I find it sounding together.

With regards drivers, I have a decent set of JBL 2226s now. They have been reconed with blue aran kits. To my eyes and fingers the cones seem pretty much identical. The cones are rigid and strong, the same color and the ridges look identical to OE JBL.
I had to get 160 screws to refit the fronts of the 4785s so I'll be getting round to getting these cabs running ASAP.

Can someone advise what the huge number of wires are for on the back of the Cannon sockets?!

I only need two surely... positive and negative!

Sean have you put speakons on yours in place of the cannon sockets and if so how did you wire them?

Cheers

And yes you only need two of them to access the cabs your powering, I removed the huge metal plate on the last pair of JBL cabs I had and replaced it with some birch ply panels with a pair of spekons.
they should sound nice with the 2226 them cabs I had had the earlier drivers (2225) so you have the advantage of the extra power as headroom but don't overdrive them Eh?

Whilst I agree with you to a smeg point in principle Colin,. there are also people who believe that a VW Beetle is the best ever. These people are crosseyed wire haired weirdos and very strange. Almost as bad as Moggy Minor luvvers. Back on  topic tho, 2225 was poor, 2226 is better, but nowhere near the BS it states, which reminds me Shaun, thanks for posting that flyer.... why the hell would a serious company quote -10dB. Mental, just mental.
Did Martin use jbl 2226?

No think they pretty much stuck with ATC and RCF until they started using B & C.
They still of course use B & C but also Celestion, Clare, eighteen sound and PHL the last two mainly in the cinema stuff.
I don't think they've used much JBL stuff since the Demise of Dave Martin.
Whilst I part agree the JBL stuff isn't the best is is still very usable personally I have used many JBL drivers with no problems (apart from those bloody super tweeters) I also have a big soft spot for RCF which I think took over from JBL cone and comp's.

Oooo Col, RCF P200's yummy. You not workin tomarrah? Most decent manufactures make something really good and someting that is as ran. The ones with all to much brochure BS are never the top. IMHO.
They make a great 15 lo mid, the 2227. brill. and the 2447 is a favourite of mine too.

I'd use 2226 or rcf L15-p200 for upper bass and rcf 18s for low bass L15-p200 will work on any type of box but Is lovely in a 2 x 15 reflex almost the perfect cab

Do these 4785s with the fully removable front have bars running between the drivers? If so I don't have any and will have to make some!
