Notice the 8" of dead air space at bottom? It's the same as the C34 with a spacer.

The plynth that you mention might originally have been built to get the box up to a certain height. Don't forget these cabs were built for the cinama industry in the states many years ago. Strangly enough all cabs that end up on the floor in clubs and pubs could do with a plynth.
