This http://www.freecarcheck.org/ is useful to check a vehicle is not on false plates (you can verify the vehicle type & colour). There is another site you can check if a vehicle has current insurance on, however you're supposed to be the registered keeper or "authorised" to use it... http://www.askmid.com/
These tools can flag up discrepancies, which may influence whether you want to allow someone to drive with £,000s of kit.

I've seen his face and name being thrown around on fb this morning on one of the sound system pages, rig resale or something like that, there's a picture of his driving licence for everyone to see on there. |

Actually, this thread is useless for internet searches since the General forum was changed to private, so Google cannot snoop it. Maybe we do need a 'Crime and Disorder Reporting' section that IS exposed to the wider internet. Looking at the age of the guy, and the type of vehicle, the car has 'Hire Car' written all over it, or at least a lease vehicle or company car. So it could help narrow down his location via the local rental branch. They could even have an address for him if they do pick ups/drop offs |

Dry hire of DJ kit to people you don't know just isn't worth it, in terms of risk of theft and damage. The profit margins on each job, even if it's a full set, are pretty much scuppered the moment you lose one bunch of kit.
We got done once, by somebody other than this guy, but with the same setup. It's a civil rather than criminal when they breach hire agreements and by the time you've followed the process to even try and get them to court the kit will be long gone. Any scammer who's spoken to somebody who's done this before knows how little risk there is for them, so it's easy to be a serial offender and simply punt them on to students down the pub for a bargain price, at which point they'll not leave a bedroom for years. ive always done dry hires and always to people ive known in the industry, plus even then contracts, id's, address and desposits taken upon collection everything checked packed signed for and deposits returned. shame that some people are out there ripping us hard working teams, people off, find em and make em pay ££££'s and if the court has anything to say youll see 2pence a week.
