Mate is looking for one of these, if he can get it within budget.

What is the accepted price range for these?

Cheers.

Understand some of these are quite old, and stories of internal batteries needing replacements.

In terms of sub warmth, high end sizzle reproduction, how do they perform compared to DB Mark, XTA?

Not used a DB Mark unit as yet.

The 9848e is around 8-10 years old. The original 9848 is a lot older, it was the go to processor for the X-Array systems in the late 90’s early 2000’s.

The really nice thing with the 9848’s is the 2 stage limiting and the full 4 x 8 matrix routing.

Sound wise they sound lovely, very warm and precsise.

I am the only person I have heard of have a issue with a 9848 and it was fairly awful! Basically it’s internal clock sync shit itself mid gig and was making seriously nasty glitchy electronic sounds out of the whole right hand side of PA.

Personally I would pick a XTA 448 over the 9848 for ease of use. Sound quality I would say they are on par. The 9848 has more features. The XTA Audiocore interface is also better than the KT one.

My personal preference over both of these units is a pair of LM44’s.

As for battery’s, any unit of this age it may make sense to change the internal battery.

A 226 of mine leaked a battery across the midi track on the main pcb and started recalling random presets. XTA’s service and battery change cost is so little it really makes sense to send a XTA straight to them upon purchase.
