Hi,
I have four Martin 215 and two midtops, just need a a nice sub section to finish it off. Looking to reach somewhere approaching 30 Hz but not too anal about that figure. I am set on a fully horn loaded solution for clarity and have therefore been drawn to the Lab design.

They are so big that I cannot contemplate eight and not really sure that four will cut it although most probably it would. So, I am fairly set on building four Labs but would be interested in any more modern suggestions that don't involve any DSP.

Must be dedicated sub for two-way bass applications and be fully horn loaded. Not too worried about efficiency or SPL. I would not discount commercial designs.

Planar wave horn maybe?

Easy to build, good performance, not very picky on the drivers used

Every box will need DSP.

Our double 18 could kill a labsub box per box hands down.

Thanks Marjan, that is a pretty interesting suggestion and not a design that I had come across yet. What put me off the reflex option was the distortion that apparently horn loading avoids. How is the distortion (ie cone control) of these Planar cabs? It does sound like a good option allowing more flexibility. I was keen though to only use the sound coming from the front of the driver.

When you say about the double 18s, do you refer to this design or another?

Thanks

Surely if I use a lab sub with the rest of the rig delayed to that and an analogue crossover, I haven't used any DSP on that cab. I was referring to the type of processing involved in the Martin ASX and whatever other crazy stuff other manufacturers are doing.

Aka a shed load of sensors that feed into the Powersoft DSP platform.
