labsubs were great at the time they were released. That is some 12 years ago. These days there are better more compact solutions.

"These days there are better more compact solutions."
A compact bass horn is called a mid-bass horn (kick).

I have four labs. Would I build them again no! do I love them yes!
Why wouldn't I build them again. well the are a really hard bin to make unless you have a cnc I think. It took me a week to make 4. Other designs take me a couple of days. Then you have to faf about with that aluminium cover. Expensive. The other thing I find is that they are an amp eater. one per side when you could have 2x 18's a side more air going on I would think. Then there is moving the dam things they are heavy and big. Stairs is a 3 man really. Here in Japan most of the clubs are in basements with right angled stairs. I have given up on taking them. I am going to make some cubo 15 ex so I can get into more clubs. Not really a practical bin I think. All that said and done I really really love the way they sound. The bass is tight and low. They hoof it out with ease. Dance music sounds great through them I think. If you take them outside they throw sound very well. Good bass up to 30 or so mtrs. Would I get rid of them absolutly not. Oh and they tend to break the driver.

They're not a very high power box, so you can hang a pair per channel off a competent amp with suitable 2 ohm output. A Powersoft K series is a really good match.

Good double 18 reflex box will outperform the lab. Be smaller and light too.
That is the more compact solution i am talking about.

Once again I think That you are maybe rite marjan. The lab does have a certain sound though. I do like it as I said. I doubt anyone who makes one would think that they are crap. Just from a practical and financial point they are hard to make sense. but sound great.

They were designed specifically for the one driver, which is a rather odd beast. No you cannot just bang anything in there and expect good results.
If you are not an experienced builder of boxes, do not start with labs is my advice for many reasons. |

You say that about the driver and I agree. however, for japanese reasons I had to load one of the labs with some others. Over there they are the thorman box speaker here they are the classic pro soundhouse jobbies. 50 bucks each. I would never load one with an expensive driver. Giged them six times flat out 8 hrs and they sounded pretty good. The drivers didn't die and I am still using them in a different box. no lowpass rinsed the life out of them. I am amazed. didn't care for the driver as it was so cheap. reason 3 month waiting list for labs. They are a mid range driver I think but the cone is so thick anything above 150hz is unbareable. great bass piston though. no idear of the perameters who cares $50.
I think it's 5 sheets of ply for two. As I said expensive.
