Hi guys, abit out of my league but a pal of mine us putting an even on for 4000 people, and is looking for a pa. He's had 2 quotes in, similar price, but not sure which to go for.
1 system is
12x dvdosc elements
4 x dvdosc subs
8 x sb28's
The other is
10x res 5's
6x f221a's
4x blades.
Music policy is dance, any suggestions?
Cheers

For the best results, neither. But from those options for the dance applications, F1 will be the better choice.

Might be helpful if you suggest a system then. Ohm?

I'd go for many other systems over the F1 personally. NCA, Void, Tannoy, Ohm, Turbosound for example. And as for the dance, forget a line array completely. Doesn't work.

I would consider L-acoustics but use ARCS

same as any other Main Stream PA / Line array manufacturer they have point source alternatives

D&B - hard to beat a C4/C7 stack with some B2s giving it all a bit of wobble....

granted they don't look as "ARD" as your F1 or Void - but I prefer plain foam covered boxes......

I'd speak to ToastyGhost on here and get hold of some incubus... ;)

Out of those two it HAS to be the L'acoustics, but I agree with Pasi. Neither.

Line array for dance music? Won't work. Especially with such a small drivers. Didn't work at Creamfields with any line array. Not with Vdosc, Not with J-series, not with Vertec, not with Xline, not with Viray or with the other coda system.

Hornloaded point source is what you need for good dance system.

I didn't recommend a line array. I recommended Incubus.

What I said was if I had to choose L'a or F1, I'd choose L'a. Even if there was half of it.

You should come tell my arcline array it can't do dance music.

Purely from a promotion point of view (as much as i hate to say or recommend this) if its a dance event, out of those two choices, id go for go for F1. People at these events love it just for its looks which also means for some illogical reason, to them it sounds better. Its a more recognised brand and if your really sad you can put '30,000,000 watt funktion one sound system' (or whatever) on the flyer. On the few rare occasions i have heard it set up properly, it has sounded pretty decent too.
If it was up to me though, for dance, I'd personally be much happier with anything Void, NCA, maybe something Martin or An EM acoustics Quake/X3 combo!

I've heard the arcline, and no, doesn't do dance stuff like i want. Low mids & kicks don't work same way like in a proper point source and it sounds a bit naf. Small drivers are small drivers and line array style HF doesn't help. But having said that, remember i don't like PLM labs on the subs either. That's also a thing what doesn't work.

Generally id' tend to agree with that. However no one can tell me line arrays wont work for Dance after hearing the Martin Audio MLA and W8LM systems at Outlook! I would Say Dimensions as well but i was part of the crew running one of them so i'd be biased :)
