Moar lowend+lowmid from `bookshelf`sized cabs seems a worthy aim these days, eh?! - 10" lowend, 5" coaxial on a 10" Waveguide was the best i`ve managed to come up with haha About 40-45ish brut volume, 30ish hz up (eqd!), biamped, unless a xover is doable within reason. 10" lowend will be tested in GHP/CB, if that doesnt work out its gonna get a low tuned 10" PR/BR.. 5" will get a tight backchamber+said WG, xover, with some eq it should cross at about 200hz fine.. Will post updates/measurements on that project as it evolves :) Happy to discuss pros/cons, lets get back to speaker nerding rather than politricks chat over here ;) ![]() ![]() Edited by bass*en*mass - 20 January 2021 at 8:49pm |

200 Hertz out of that Conical? What is the depth of the horn?
Best Regards, |

Obviously that Waveguide wont load down to 200hz but adds some sensitivity and directivity.. the coax plays flat 100up in a small ported cab like the nova cpa5.

green is with the WG.. suboptimal indoors setup, the tendencies measured do match the heard noticable gains though.. :)

..with very little effort (cutting the dayton horn to size) and low costs of about 10quid (the horn) theres at least a 3db gain 300hz up to 5khz - better than expected tbh. the spike at 930ish hz might be a setup issue, after all, its a suboptimal setup indoors..! with only 2-3 eqs it should play as flat as possible within reason/budget/intent though :) below 300hz theres no gain at all, hence the graph starts at 300.. both are almost flat to 100ish though, despite the fact that the horn is in the same cab, just with blocked ports, the ported one without the horn obviously goes a tad lower but as its not interesting for my particular idea/attempt i dont care much about the response below 200ish hz, efficiency 300up should be raised by adding the `ideal` backchamber, comming soon.. managed to find suitable spare pieces of mpx at the storage, off to build the proto soon :) |

![]() ![]() some progress.. scrap wood cut and dryfitted, seems to fit, not pretty but should work for the purpose of testing and `upcycling` :) |

If you are measuring indoors, you do not need to measure at high volume to attain the frequency response. By having the microphone very close to the cone or horn's mouth it will allow you to eliminate any reflections coming from the room. Worst case scenario just measure the horn under a blanket and kiss any reflections goodbye! ![]() Best Regards,

Nice work! I think that waveguide gave some interesting result!
Keep it up and update us

Elliot, i did close groundplane measurements with as much as possible damping behind the mic.. 0.5-1m, the dips and peaks might still be caused by suboptimal distances involved indoors, the measurable trends and noticable gains in real world confirm each other though.. after all results are more dependant of the specific room more than most are aware of.. As soon as the proto cab is finished i will do measurements outdoors..! whats really missing atm is the lowend section, initial tests with the omnes in a small cb showed it should work well, properly tuned.. if not its retuning time with the passive radiator :) |

![]() slowly slowly but steadily.. - just need to attach the coax and backchamber + some biamp wiring.. |
