Which of the two are deemed more reliable of the two? Both are listed as touring grade by Crown.

Hi.
The Macrotech & Microtech are identical with the exception of the Macrotech offering IOC indicators. Best Regards, |

A Macrotech 600 has twice as many outputs as the Microtech.

The Macros take PIP cards, the Micros don´t - and in my experience, the protection circuitry of the Micros is total crap - if they go DC, goodbye speakers. With the Macros, you might get lucky and end up with a couple of cabs still working!

The amplifiers are the same. There is no difference in the power supply or components. The IOC and PIP cards are the only features added which transfered the Microtech into the Microtech LX then finally Macrotech. A lot of people did not like the Microtech for it offered only "Enable" and "ODEP" indicators which did not tell the user the output status of the amplifier. Best Regards, |

The PowerBase, Powertech, Comtech, Microtech, and Macrotech have the same circuit boards for the main amplifier section. The Microtech and Macrotech have more outputs installed than the PowerBase, Powertech, Comtech and are rated for 2Ω. I always install the extra outputs on the PowerBase, Powertech, Comtech series. They don't put out anymore power, but they are more reliable. All are etched and drilled for twelve outputs per channel. The smaller ones have four outputs and I increase these to eight, the middle sized have eight and I increase these to twelve. |

Not true i'm afraid,Crown/Amcron Microtech and Macrotech have same amount of output devices, same psu, same specs in term of power, the other differences doesn't really matter in real world

Macrotechs were great in their day, but having compared the bass tone of Macrotech, vs QSC PL380, I say it's time to move on.

You can beat the sound of a macrotech with many new amplifiers like the one you mentioned from QSC,but you can never beat reliability of Macros, and i'm after this,i don't like to change 20amps in 5 years like most people do,i can say i'm an old style guy :D and regarding the price that QSC is not quite cheap
