Hmm. Sure when i looked the driver up it was 100db...
Wonder why that doesn't correlate to the cab? Mind you the twin 8 would probably still be louder, so I'm still wrong. Edited by JonB67 - 15 January 2019 at 3:00pm |

I didn't state anything. I asked it as a question to raise debate. Do you think a pair of 2x8 fanes is a suitable replacement for the hysis 4 playing in an outside space is actually the question to help the op here. Perhaps you could work out the hysis 4 spl for comparison?

Sorry Jon, you are correct, you didn’t state… my bad. Mark (the OP) is running the Peaveys in an 8 meter by 4 meter (26 x 13 feet approx.) marque, the system can’t be working hard otherwise it would be deafening. If I could find the specs for the Hisys 4 I’d happily do a comparison… either way this system is way too big for the application it’s currently being used for…. Although having a large system in a small space is quite entertaining, let’s face it, we have all done it at some time!! Mark; just out of curiosity, are your Hisys 4s the early (Bi-Radial horn) version or the later xt versionEdited by APW - 15 January 2019 at 3:02pm |

Hi Jon, with regards you asking why the driver datasheet SPL doesn’t
correspond with the cabinet SPL, I suspect the following scenario….
When you look at the datasheet for the driver the frequency plot has two 5dB spikes between about 1.6K and just over 3K, these would push up the average measured SPL reading for the driver, however these spikes are not desirable when the driver is used this cabinet and as they happen at about or above the crossover point I suspect the crossover circuitry removes the spikes and so the resulting measured SPL for the cabinet is lower. |

Hi again all, just wanted to say thanks for all your replies, I've only just got home from work, so haven't read them all properly yet, but there's a few asking how I'm driving the peaveys.
I guess this is where any credibility I might have had, hits the floor! from my mixer (citronic cdm8) the output splits to full range tops (hysis4's) that are powered by a Warrior IS-1000 (1k max@4ohms) It then is run through a Behringer super X pro active crossover, and I'm only using the sub output set at 40Hz. The 215's are then powered by a Behringer Europower 4000 (4k@2ohms/2k@4ohms) so potentially, a 3k setup... I run it at about 1/2 power, so no distortion or popping and farting, and it really fills the area (ok, the neighborhood) with a comfortable sound... i always stack them tall so the horns are above everyones head, and it does always sound good, but I can't say that you really feel the bass, but i guess the 215's are pretty much 2x 15" black widows in a plain rectangular box? as I said though, its more about the sheer size of these beasties that is my biggest problem, (alongside that my amps are cheap poo) and if I can buy or attempt to build something small and powerful, that would be great. Gonna have a good read now, cheers.Mark

hiya, Haa-Haa! the neighbours are great... we have on a couple of drunken occasions ended up doing a conga in the street!! it does travel... its audible over 100m away, but seemingly not annoying enough for folks to complain! just hope it stays that way!! cheers. mark

Hi Mark, with regards posting pictures (and sending/receiving PM's), you need at least 10 points (one point per post) then you will be able to post pictures, you're already up to 8 so a couple more and you will be set to go. |
