That's quite something Dom, eight of those 115's will punch like hell, have you tried the system outdoors?

Toebaik. Look underneath the martins. Lab horns built by me. I have done plenty of hard speakers. The reason was I really did it to the same speck as Tony. All rebated by hand router. Then all the handles and then all the paint etc.. Do you have a pic of yours please? I can upload build pics. These are done rite.

Ian Yes they have been very busy last couple of years. Mainly outside. Tekno and Psy. Also some live work too. They excel with psy. I have done one event inside a club. I have to say no dj ever asked me 'got anymore bass mate '. I made them to fit the mid horns. Taguchi. Also you and Robbo rave about these old boxes.
I do have the proper 2inch radial horns now. Loaded with some pioneer rubbish. TAD . So I binned them and stuck jbl's in there. Joke by the way. Still not sure where the amp is still Osaka docks I think.

I never forget the first Thin Lizzy headlining tour with a big Entec Martin Audio rig with twelve 1x15s a side, when the sound check started as usual with the drum kit and when Brian Downey hit the bass drum for the first time one of the lighting guys was walking across the stage in front of the PA stacks and he was physically blown off the stage with the air movement pressure---never seen this happen again in my touring lifetime.

I am guessing that they were running off BGW GTB's 600w into 4r so a total of 7200w max on the 115s . Now today that is two bass bins isn't it? Flat out on a powersoft.
8x115 will give you about 4sqmtrs of mouth. Were they the TAD, Gauss or E140? I really want to hear 8 loaded with the Gauss.

I would say that they were probably Gauss loaded as most of the companies based around London and the south of the UK tended to use Gauss as Mike Cotter used to look after them really well with supplies of drivers and also very quick on the reconing front---We had some Mega 1x15s similar to the Martins and they were loaded from the factory with E140 JBLs and we hated them as they did nothing but honk a lot but after changing back to some older K140s it cured the problem---never been a fan of the E140 sound to this day.

Aaaah - good old M. Cotter. Now there was a gent. Unbelievable what happened to him... ![]() And funnily enough, I'm actually taking out my Philishaves for a bit of an airing tomorrow. I had a couple of 115's, but sold them as they do take up a lot of room. I now use EV MTL2's under the Philies. And I've always wondered what difference there was between the 115 and 215. Any comments? |

Yeah--Mike Cotter was one of the nicest blokes that I have ever met in the music industry and he would go out of his way to help anyone with a problem.
As regards the comparison between Martin 215s and 115s, the double bin always seemed to have the edge over a pair of stacked 115s probably down to the drivers coupling inside the cabinet---we used to have a mix of both cabinets available from stock as some venues were difficult to get the double bin in/out of and they were very difficult to stack three high(no wimps back in those days) and probably the reason why I now have permanent back pain!!!!! |

Ok, interesting, ta. ![]() And try moving the MT4's around! I worked for a while with a company that had a load of those. Stacking them was an art!! ![]() |

Dom, not sure if you can get Precision Devices out there, but if you can, try the PD1550 in the 115, it's a good modern alternative to the Gauss 4583. Has a bit more power handling too, due to modern adhesives etc. Eight of those would be epic in the 115's, but see if you can get a single one to compare side by side with your existing drivers?

Without a doubt I want the PDs. But at 400quid a pop here. Don't think the wife would allow it. I don't make enough money off the sound to warrant it.
They are Kappa loaded. And to be honest it is plenty. I think with the 115 it best to not drive the life out of them. They really don't need a lot of power. Like I said running them off Amcron 3600vz. It is plenty. Emmy are about all you get here at a good price. They came 140 loaded. Sounded fine but I only run them up to 160hz.. E140 is not a popular speaker here they don't make much money. I will try and upload some build pics . May take a while. I am a bit of a "vintage lover" Ian. that is also why I would like to hear the Gauss.
