Hi everyone.
I've refurbed three Martin Audio 115 horns and loaded them with Fane Sov Pro 600 LF drivers, (600w). I'm running them as a mono stack with a HMAPS12 reflex top on top, all at 8r on a TSA 4/700 4chan amp. It sounds really nice, and I'm wondering what others thoughts are on the 115, as there is not many recent threads on them. I'm seriously considering getting more and making another identical stack as I have another HMAPS12 top. Also, I'm running the 115's at 40-150, is that adequate? cheers! photo here:

Nicely refurbed. Well done.
3 per side,in a stereo system,is considered the norm. But more the better, Only downside is the size and bulk of them, and storage/van room they occupy. They can be operated up to 250hz,there is even a photo on the martin site, that had them passively crossed at 900hz into a radial horn plonked on top,but that was how they did it in 1973! |

Be seeing you.

Ah, those days of no vocal clarity and ringing ears! I remember them well! |

"operated up to 250hz" -I wouldn't!
But if they're the only subs I'd stick in something more powerfull compared to size to make some serious bass, could be lf15n451, killer driver, wouldn't use that if crossing up high though! |

Martin Audio 115s are still one of the best bass/kick bins going as long as you don't expect them to do sub.
You do have a couple of problems here though as the Fanes are a waste of space in that cabinet and will self destruct with torn cones---You need drivers with very thick and heavy cones to get the best out of them, something along the lines of PD1550 which kick like a mule in them. The cabinets also look very much like copies especially when looking at the thin spindly handles on the top two cabinets---there are one hell of a lot of copies of these boxes about and are very often quite poorly and wrongly built in the compression section at the back of the cabinet. You can virtually stick any driver inside and these cabinets will sound "nice" but get a decent pro quality driver inside and you will notice one hell of a difference. I think I also ran mine with 1550s, but they went on into 215 mk3s :-)

Hi Robbo, I don't think the 1550 Sims up as well. I do believe the bottom one is a copy. The top two are originals as they had the original badges on the horn mouth sides.
