Don’t know if this is the right place to post this but there you go. I was having a rummage at work the other day and came across some Martin Audio CX2s... like you do! They seem well built but I don’t have any info on them or any idea of they are good sounding cabs? Does anyone still use them? Are they worth anything?

Sound is analogue, get over it!

Thanks, that's great. The cabs and drivers seem to be in very good condition for their age and I'm told were working when they were taken down. It seems a shame that they are just gathering dust. I might have to dig them out and check over all the drivers.

How many are there? these used to be used in conjunction with the BX2 sub cabinet, and a little processor/crossover.
Be seeing you.

3 of them, no BX2s or EX2 but have found an eq curve for the EX2 on the Martin Audio website. I'm told one of the compression drivers has died but would have to dig the cabs out and have a play.

They seem to have a habit of doing that? used a few on installs when they first came out and repair kits were needed for most of them, in the end we changed the drivers for fane coax and all was well! so best not to drive them to hard!

The old system was an A&H SC desk feeding Quad 405-2s Shocked that drove the CX2s. The blown CD seems to be in a cab that was used as a centre fill fed from the Mono output on the SC. If I remember rightly there is no metering on that output and throw in the mismatch between the SCs output and the 405s input probably resulted in the demise of the CD! Apparently it kept happening. Will have to dig them out next week and have a look at the drivers, see if they are original or not. BTW does anyone still use these cabs?

The usual cause of blown HF in CX's was overdriven underpowered amplifiers. People would send them in for inspection saying "but I was only using a 100W amplifier, it must be a warranty"

A Quad 405 definitely isn't big enough, would surely have been putting out square waves !

We used to recommend a minmum amp power of 150W into 8 ohms.

If you're lucky, the resistor pad in the crossover will have burnt out, saving the driver. The diaphragms are no longer obtainable.

The whole setup was wrong! Found a few spec sheets and it seems Martin increased the recommended amp rating.

We used to drive 4 x CX2's with an HH V800 which seemed just about right but we still lost the comps hence our replacing the drivers with the Fane coax! had no problems with them after that!
but this was in the days when limiters were only found in studio's
