Heyhey everybody,

I've 2 types of speakers, 4x MartinAudio WSX (single 18") and 12x MasterBlaster Concept01 (single 15") speakers. From the latter there are no known specs anymore. Those cabinets where build in the early eighties.
I hope I can deduct together with you guys if I can combine both speakers or not.

Master Blaster Concept 01 Inside
These are the internals of the Concept01 speakers. The speaker is 122cm high, 65cm width and 80cm deep.

For the completeness I've also added here the internals of the MartinAudio WSX speaker
Martin Audio WSX Internals

I was thinking myself using the MartinAudio WSX for 25hz - 100hz work and the Concept01 as 100hz - 250hz work. But I really want your advice on what to best.

Kind regards,

Faust

In the MartinAudio WSX are RFC 18LP300.

The Concept01 came original in 3 iterations, first one with JBL 2205, second iteration Beyma 15K200 and the thirth one RCF although I don't know which model.

I've mine loaded with Beyma 15k200 and Beyma 15LX60.

The original drivers in the wsx then. Yeah use the settings from martin audios archive products spreadsheet for those.

Bit strange idea.....

Generally not a good idea to mix two types of FLH.

The funny thing is, that the concept1 bins have a larger mouth than the wsx. Your stack of 12 horns adds up to a massive 9,5 m² of horn mouth.
Your four wsx combine to only 2,5 m².

So unless the concept01 15" bins are really shite and don't go low, you wouldn't even need the wsx's?

15k200 looks like a really nice horn driver, the 15LX60 so so, high qts for horn use.

Have you done any measurements to see what the 15" bins are capable of? Or comparison in general between the two?

Edit: and since you have popped a speaker open already, you could do the diy community a great service: take the measurements of the cab and draw up a plan Big smile
Further benefit of releasing the plan: it could be modeled and evaluated in hornresp for hard, fact-based analysis!

This is really interesting. It looks kind of like the traditional scoop horn path, but with the driver baffle moved to the back of the rear chamber. Simple, no wasted space. Just the height and depth of the cab result in almost 2m horn lenght just from the mouth to the upper right corner, before the first 180° bend. Must be around 2,5m overall lenght? But the back chamber is of course much smaller than that of the wsx.

@bob4

The specs of those bins are lost to time. The original builder doesn't react to any messages on fb or email.

I had the concept01 bins before the wsx, I hoped I could buy more wsx's as my new low and move the concept01 bins one layer up to the kick section.

I've haven't popped mine open, this picture is of a friend who build there own and popped one open themselves. I can make some measurements from all pieces I can access and maybe we can stick some stuff together then.

@bob4 & @kdw32
MasterBlasterConcept01Stack
I've 2 of the original tops with them. Horn loaded with 2x 12" jbl mi12, 1x jbl2425 and 1x jbl 2404, with a passive filter (all original).

I also use the tops of my two other stacks.
BlueStack
The scoops are half jbl 4520 speakers. Loaded with black widow 1505 KA DT. The tops are custom build. The black horn is a peavey horn with a jbl 2425 behind it. Below are 2x jbl e110.
BlackStack
4 times half jbl 4520 bins again. This time loaded with 4 unknown brand drivers. The tops are a custom build, something like the SMT212. A unknown horn with a jbl 2425 and 2x jbl e120.

I've also 8x sa4512 bins with jbl e120. And 4x DAP StageBlaster SB1-B bins.

Quite a diversity of equipment there......

Was looking at your crews fb page, you mix a lot of different cabs.Shocked

Half 4520s should be very nice!! They have deep enough chambers to load with modern high performance drivers Clap stack of 8 should move some serious air!

Have you used these concept 1 bins yet?  Do you ever take time to try out just one type of bass cabs at a time?

It would be quite interesting just to compare wsx vs concept1 stack. Because both of them should be capable of doing the whole bass range by themselves. The main question is, do the concept01 bins go low enough?

Do you have any measurement gear? Like a laptop, audio interface & microphone? There is free software like roomeqwizard, and affordable, easy options like fuzzmeasure for mac.

Since you have the speakers, and you have space, you can easily measure and compare yourself!

Have you tried the Dutch masterblaster/sound projects Group on facebook? After fairlight killed off the brand a few years ago it is the to go place with quite a bunch of people from the early days. Make sure you contact the right persoon tough. The split between MB and Sound projects wasn’t a amically one.
