I'd say that's an STR 3000, the 2400 used the same size toroid but I'm sure it didn't have a full compliment of mosfets like that one, only the 3000 had every available 'fet space filled from memory.

Exicon still sell Equivalents.... Not Cheap!!
http://www.exicon.info/cross-ref.php BUZ901 = ECF10N20 BUZ906 = ECF10P20 BUZ901P = ECX10N20 BUZ906P = ECX10P20 BUZ901D = ECF20N20 BUZ906D = ECF20P20 BUZ901DP = ECW20N20 BUZ906DP = ECW20P20 ......To change all the Mosfets in that amp with the Exicon equivalents
would cost over £350.00 for just the parts.

In other words, keep the chassis, the power supply and ditch the mosfets. BUZ901 and BUZ906, get out ! Make place for cheaper workers ! Edit: oops ! The power supply is on the same PCB with the mosfets. That means, the chassis and the toroidal transformer stays in. Everyone else... get out !

It probably isn’t, we’re just talking hypothetically.
BTW, I like these old Mosfet amps… they tend to have a laid back warm sound. Edited by APW - 26 November 2020 at 9:20am |

I couldn't tell any difference in the sound between my Matrix STR's and the Technics class A hi-fi amp I've got in the living room, they sounded superb. I used them for years and only got rid of my last two last year as they were getting a bit temperamental and for reasons mentioned in this thread!

What would be the output of that with a full set of 16 devices per channel, 2x 1000 into 4 ohms? I couldn't find the specs online.

You could also "modify" the setup and use the cheaper "X" range. The equivalent to the 2SJ162/2SK1058. That works out a lot cheaper (if replacement is actually needed). |

The old UKP and STR amps model numbers tend to reflect the RMS power into both channels at 4R i.e. the UKP2100 is rated 1050Watts RMS per channel onto 4ohms so I would think the STK3000 is 1500watts/PC into 4 ohms.
I still have an old Matrix brochure from this era somewhere I'll try to dig it out. Edited by APW - 26 November 2020 at 1:16pm |
