Hello
I'm searching for a amp for my subs, Void v18 1000's in paraflex O type. I have 2 of them. I am thinking of a matrix XT10000MF or a MC2 E45 but have no idea which one sounds "better" or warmer on my subs. Can anyone help me on how i can know which one to choose without testing them? |

Speakerplans is the wrong place, to ask about Amps that sound warm.
Get a Void Infinite 8, if you want warmth, and power, at HPF down to 38hz. Edited by levyte357- - 05 May 2022 at 11:25pm |

‘Warmth’ is typically used as a subjective term to describe increased levels of second harmonic distortion, or increased magnitude response/spectral tilt at lower frequencies.
Neither of these things is desirable as a fixed quality in an amplifier, which should be a ‘wire with gain’ that can output huge amounts of unclipped peak voltage on demand to play music properly. The good news is that you can achieve both with front-end processing. You can add some tape or tube saturation via analogue or digital effects to the bass channel for the former, and get the benefit of being able to turn it off when you don’t want it. The latter can be done using good old parametric EQ to reduce the amount of upper bass (above 60Hz) relative to the sub frequencies. As seen (and well liked) in the “INFRA” mode for the d&b B2 dual-18” bandpass, which just brings the low pass filter corner frequency down rather than actually extending response below 40Hz by any amount. Since the Paraflex boxes seem to have an abundance of upper bass at the expense of the lowest notes, don’t be surprised if you need a lot of gain reduction to achieve this effect. Between the two amps you mention, I’d take the MC2 every day. Edited by toastyghost - 06 May 2022 at 10:06am |

Subjective, agreed. Will also agree, some would describe "increased magnitude response/spectral tilt at lower frequencies", as unwanted, however some would argue, this phenomenon, added to sub notes, by a Crest CA18, is far from distortion.
I'm no MC2 Fan, but my experience of "the other brand", would be, it shouldn't even be considered. As others know by now, I'm a K20, Void Inf 8 MK2, QSC PL380, groupie..
