Looking for recommendations for the most efficient sub design for single 15" that would keep up with 2 12s a side and a bms 4594nd a side.
Thinking 2 x 15s a side in singles for portability. Probably reflex but like the idea of tapped horns?

There's the problem -
More Compact - Less efficient
More Efficient - less compact.
So I suppose the questions are:-
How big a box - or set of boxes can you accommodate?
How low do you want to go?

Yes was expecting that. Basically it's mainly a weight issue not size. Due to carrying them on my own. Hence 4 15s instead of duals.
35 to 40hz to 100hz would be sufficient.

ive considered going down ghe active route but don't want to comprimise sound quality. Musical bass is much preferred over spl however also needs to keep up with 4 12s.

load with neo drivers, saves 4 -5 kilos per driver.

Tapped horns are more efficient,  and if a single pair of tham 15s has enough output to do the job that's the lightest,  cheapest,  easiest solution.

If not then a pair of compact b6 alignment subs per side might do the trick

Also have a look at these q15 by the late tony wilkes (a big contributor to this forum before his untimely passing a few years ago)

If you like what you see, user Bee on here owns the rights, sells an updated version,  or will give you a copy of tonys original plans if you donate to the British heart foundation.

tonys were the compact b6 alignment reflex called the q15

The tham 15 tapped horns are anders martinssons creations and the plans are freely available

Sorry if that was confusing

2 a side, one on top of the other with the dual 12 above that makes for a very very nice sounding system.
Most important aspect of the tham 15 is choosing the right driver.

Tony did build a few tham 15 before the q15 and raved about it.

Yes exactly what I was thinking as I need height for the tops to sit on.
Can anyone recommend which drivers would be best?

if you are talking about efficiency in terms of size and weight you should go for B6 alignment reflex - if you use lightweight amps this will give you the most output for a given amount of kit. if you are more interested in electrical efficiency or saving money go for tapped horns.

got to confess when i weighed up the pros and cons for my own setup I ended up with reflex not tapped horns,  and im not at all unhappy.  They sound lovely.  I have to keep mine in the an upstairs room atm and carry then up a steep narrow stair case pretty easily.
