15" would probably work fine, I suspect a 12" might be a little better/louder at producing those frequencies though. You'll just have to look at the frequency response graph for individual speakers and it'll show you where they work best

Currently, I'm thinking about custom building a single cabinet with two horn tweeters in it, since my PA already has four 15"s, an 18" and two horn tweeters. I feel like those two extra tweeters will balance out the mix a lot more. Something like these: https://www.eminence.com/speakers/supertweeter-detail/?model=APT150

Two horn tweeters in one cabinet is a BIG NO!

Apt 150 is good from 3500 hz at lower volume, or from 5 khz with more power.
A 15 inch will not reach that high and even if it would , it will beam like a laser. You can take a sealed or reflex 15 up to 1000 hz, better lower. Horn loaded 15s will loose steam even lower, but load more in the lower region. So you need some mids, no way an apt (or 2 or 3) could keep up volume and frequency wise with 4 15 inches. |

Unless you know exactly what you are doing you end up with a comb filter. Comb filtering is an affect that happens when you have simultaneous arrival of the same signal from two sources, due to triangulation between the two sources and your ears, the two signals will arrive at your ears at very slightly different times this will cause a phase difference that will then make the two signals either add or subtract from each other (depending on the phase diffrences) causing peaks and troughs in the sound. The affect is that your ears will hear a sound at location
A, however moving a couple is inches to position B the sound will change drastically.
This is due to interference pattern generated between the two signals….. Its basic
physics. The trick is get the centres between the two sources within a ¼ wavelength of each other so they couple and present as a single source, due to the relative wavelengths this is fairly simple to achieve with woofers and midrange drivers, however a ¼ wavelength at say 10Khz is a shade over 8.5mm (0.335") and 20Khz is half that. This is impossible to achieve using two standard horns… and before you say “What about line arrays” they use complexed wave guides so the sound is presented as a uniform wave front. edit: added YouTube links Edited by APW - 21 July 2020 at 2:15pm |

Apparently Eminence N314 is good one, and the N151M (a blatant BMS copy) too.
