Depends on how much you dilute it, but yes i think it may be a little to aggressive.
Thinkin about it, sugar soap might do the trick. Edited by specialjustin - 02 April 2007 at 5:25am |

Should use a scraper to remove the bulk of the crapola then apply cleaner of choice. |

I had a bit of a scare when i took my cabs out of the garage the othwer week after a bit of a lay up over the winter. There was mould everywhere and i thought it was because of damp in my garage.
However when i inspected drivers and things they were all good and fine.
Turened out it was the yeast in the spilt beer had started to grow. you could see the tracks and runs quite clearly. Hot water and a little washing up liquid sorted them out.
Re: Caustic soda. Last time i came across that stuff was in my old 2 stroke motorbiking days. We used to fill the exhausts with it to remove all the black carbon build ups in the pipe. Evil stuff, gets your eyes and skin real bad.

Actually, caustic soda is used all the time in antique restoration, diluted of course, to clean up filthy wood and remove traces of old polish.. It really draws dirt out of the wood, though it opens the grain a bit in doing so which may not be a good thing.
This only applies to bare wood...
Wouldn't recommend it on painted surfaces though, would probably have some kind of rection with most finishes.. |

Insomnia, you gonna spray the grill with some type of car spray or can you also use Aldcrofts paint ? Would the Aldcroft actually stick onto the grill ?
Also, the way the cabs are looking pukka now since you've spiced them up, don't you think it would be as good idea to get some nice new shiny bolts & replace them rusty ones ? Which will complete this job.

Hi Lynx-
gona wash then rub down the grills (scotch pad) and give them a few coats of hamerite satin spray paint-
u can also give the bolts a spray with the hammerite it will bring them back to life-
