hi dubsection - that is a very friendly fold = "yum" to folks with limited time to cut/assemble - lightened your pic in attempt to see better

might there be a sketch sometime in future?

what the path length - maybe 2.2M?

Thanks freddy

I tried to make the fold as simple as possible. There is only one join not composed of 45 degree cuts (at the back of the throat) Not having more sections makes the horn a little bigger volume wize, but for a first time build I think it's good to simplify a bit. Horn length was around 2.2m initially, but is about 1.95 meters after dubsuction decided it was a little too big.

Similar to the LAB option, the "nose" section was cut off, which I'm sure is fine, especially seeing that it's gonna work in a stack of 4.

I'm sure it'll be plenty loud, the only question remaining is how high the horn can be crossed, as the throat section is a simplification. I recon 140Hz might well be on the cards, but this is one fo those things one can only determine by measurement.

freddyi: cheers for the lightened version its much clearer! ..as for the plans i'm in the process of getting some to rog for a bit of an inspection i'll build the others and have a damn good play....could do with tracking down someone with the software and ability to measure em when they are done to plot some response curves and have a toy with the EQ and xing over....after that its up to martin as to what happens with the plans....as he has contributed greatly by designing them.....if they turn out all good i'm love some plans to end up here as without this site these babies wouldn't be in existence!

nuff respect to all involved

p.s.   dubsection is probablly a better name...dubsection-ed might be even better

in US, one diy size comes in for 1-15" horn with about 1.5-1.6M path as good punchy tradeoff  and about 45kg weight in baltic

how large is this horn? - should perform well

Martin did great design and you did great build - be fun to see measurements - and get the subjective report - if you can stand to calibrate free Speaker workshop then it will do lots of stuff - Praxis has a free demo

best!

Glad to have helped. If this thing works out alright, anybody is welcome to have the plans/drawings. Even the initial sketch could be posted as a concept if anyone wants to see it (problem with that was accompanied with a fair bit of text and the cab was heightned by a cm or two IIRC and one dimention was shown as 50cm instead of 25cm). Call it Open Source. I don't have a scanner, but I could even scan a rough sketch of the folding if anyone is interrested.

cheers freddy

1.95m-2m path,  cabinet external measurements 103.6 x 78.6 x 46.6 not small but as martin said you sacrifice a bit of cab size for simpicity of build i guess...should go low though...

havent weighed it yet..but i can move it so thats a good start

cheers

nice size!  - 300l cab suggested to me for 15"  is 76cm  x  67cm x  57cm with has v-wedge throat - weltersys on AA's HE says punches hard - but  don't have application lol - can't' get around - also collected too many funky old speakers

if you can even move the cabinet - then very good sign!  15" horn = nice project

Best Wishes

One of the design goals was to get to a touch under 40Hz if possible, so a longer horn was chosen. The reason for this is that dub music supposedly has significant LF, so one wants as much extension as one can get. I suppose for gabba and similar music genres a shorter horn is fine and actually preferred becasue of the extended useable upper bandwidth = kick.

This system will probably have a Top system comprizing of a 15", 2x6.5" and a 1" tweeter (which dubsuction has at his disposal already) That's a topic for another thread though.

Whenever I'm around your part of the woods again (UK was wicked and I'd like to go there again sometime) I'll be sure to drop by.

Most of you geezas don't even know the meaning of the word thunder. I live on top of a hill and can see the thuderstorms approaching. With the great big heater in the sky firmly switched on "full-blast" lately, I give it another week or two till we have our first proper thunderstorm. Gotta love a highfeld thunderstorm.
