Hello i have been reading loadsa stuff on here and have now started 2 hd's and thought i would post some build pics and ideas and would like some opinions or help along the way?
If these two go ok i thought i would build 6 more and then onwards and upwards! The first thing i decided to do is build the curved section externally and then screw and clue n place. This was so i could start building them first and have the glue drying whilst i build the boxes. This way i thought i could guarantee a good fit. My second stage which i a up to now is fitting the corner brace, should i put anything behind it or just stick and go? Any hows heres some pics - and i dont have the drivers yet so anyone with spare drivers let me know cheers All the panels were cut with either a buzz saw or jigsaw Edited by Silas )))))) - 17 January 2008 at 5:58pm |

The other point to make is theres lots of talk about cutting miters! i cut mine using a small electrical plainer and an old work bench i have little care for They worked out perfect

I assume you're going to laminate several peices of thin ply together rather than just the single layer shown?

I take it the side are gonna come away after? only they look the same internal width as the box beside it in the pic
you have also screwed the first ply in place and the rest on top, does this mean the batterns are going to stay?
If you got your self some flexy mdf, the mdf board that has lots of cuts in the back you could have done it in 1, 1 piece flexy 1 piece ply
now you have to do this process 4 times for every cab
good luck, looking good for a first build
I would recomend that new builders just take a little time out and learn how to use a hand held router and learn to mitre your edges, it does'nt take that much more time and makes the cab allot stronger and goes together much more easier
and be PATIENT, do all your planning first IE: handle positions and sockets before you put the cab together
I see you have your first 3 pannels glued but you haven't routed a radius on your front edge? it would have been better for you to do it before you started gluing Edited by mykey - 20 January 2008 at 3:12am |

I manage to do miters ok with the plainer, no trouble. As for the curve the sides do stay on, i got my measurements slightly wrong as to the width of the sides so i plained them back to run flush with the curve, works for me but yer your right there is easier and better way.
Will post some more pics when i get the time. i have assembled one mock up with handle positions and the speaker and its a nice snug fit. but as i have used MDF the weight is way more than expected!

Looking pretty good! One small point dude, you gonna seal the gap on the far left of the picture? its part of the rear chamber, could cause problems.

Yer, that last pic is just a mock up, the curve isnt fixed in the cabs yet. Tho nxt time i am definatly going to build the curve in the cabinet not externally! - Im not entirely sure what sort of seal to use on the joins? i have screwed and heavily glued but what sealing is best?
