I have to ask the question, after building so many cabs how on earth do you remember which ones went were/how long they were there for etc etc?

Woops, just saw the one off bit. That probably has something to do with it Embarrassed
but still, you just reeled off an entire install!

It's probably down to dedication. I built my first speaker in 1965, it was to accompany the Bass Guitar I had made in the previous year. I have always thought it was in me to do these things, I'm probably like a stick of rock with speakers written right through the middle. I would say that unlike a few of my colleagues in the business, I always remained hands on and stayed on the shop floor, as apposed to retiring to the office. Although as you get older, you start to forget things, especially what you did 40 years ago, but with speakers, I don't seem to forget much. I started out wanting to design and build speakers and that is what I continue to do. I can remember so many off the installs because I, together with the team did them. Who could forget 10 days in Dublin doing the Mean Fiddler for Vince. We had a great time ( after work I mean ). And the time he decided to open two venues on the same night and had us running between the two without any sleep for three days. These things are etched in my Brain, what is left of it.

One of the early sites we did in the Organization was the Original one in London. We then did the Wexford site. That was just one main room with Satellites. The main system was MX600's etc with our curved monitors. the Sats were Spektra cabs.
The other site we did much later was South in Tramore. I designed the adjustable  flying bars for that one too. I remember that one because apart from the install, we opened with Fat Boy Slim.
The two venues we did back to back in London were the Complex in Islington and the Powerhouse in Finsbury Park.

the gear my mate picked up last year was 6 bs1200s, and 2 mx600s. and there were a few curved front monitors. someone said it had come out of the pub "next door to whelans" which would have been the wexford inn, which became mean fiddler, which has since changed name about 3 times.

Whelans was next door. I remember opening night with a queue right down the street. I was on the opposite side of the road with Vince and we were commenting on how Wheelans, who were also a live venue, were going to react.

There would have been a small amount saved, but the weight wasn't the issue. As stated before, it was purely sight lines that were a problem. I had to get them as small as possible and still get the impact. I could have built 12" columns, but the dynamics wouldn't have been the same once they pushed it for the heavy Rock bands that played there. I even made a full size cardboard speaker for the venue so that the size could be approved.
That speaker had no easy way of attaching a grill, but of course for the Mean Fiddler that wasn't a problem. A single 12 plus horn was done to fly above the main speaker. Headroom was the name of the game.
